Five ways to be festive on St. Patrick’s Day

If you’re looking for a festive way to spend St. Patrick’s Day in Orange, you’re in luck. For those who are tied to campus, it’s surprisingly easy to find something to do without having to go the extra mile  literally! Old Towne Orange offers an array of spots to help you add some spirit to your weekend.

O’Hara’s Pub

Take advantage of the cheap Guinness Lager and kick back to some old school tunes at O’Hara’s Pub. The shamrocks and wood paneling, variety of beers on tap and electric jukebox all contribute to the Irish atmosphere. St. Patrick’s Day is O’Hara’s most popular time of the year, and according to the pub’s owner (name to come), “On St. Patrick’s Day weekend, people can expect ridiculous craziness and a very exciting happy hour from Friday until sundown on Sunday.” Drinks are sold at a bargain price of $3 a glass and $7 a pitcher. For those that are 21 and older, O’Hara’s will leave you feeling lucky on St. Patrick’s Day.

Whether they be dyed green with sprinkles, or coconut-flavored with fresh shavings, these cupcakes will make your holiday tastier! Only a two-minute walk from campus, these award-winning cakes will add a sweet spark to your day.

All those in favor of international street food, please stand up. The Wall pairs a unique drinking experience with tapas-style cuisine. “St. Patrick’s Day at The Wall is an experience you don’t want to miss out on,” co-owner Ryan Sauter said. Choose from up to 50 different craft beers or try the restaurant’s special Irish Red Ale. This whole month, they will also be offering a limited-edition St. Patrick’s Day burger.

Watson’s Soda Fountain & Café will be going green for St. Patrick’s Day. The restaurant plans their annual St. Patrick’s Day festivities by filling the entire place with green decor. St. Patrick’s Day at this notable landmark, California’s original soda fountain, is an experience you don’t want to miss. Known for their frozen treats, Watson’s will be serving green St. Patrick’s Day milkshakes, with lots of sprinkles involved.

The Auld Dubliner

If you want to go all in on an authentic St. Patrick’s Day adventure, and are willing to venture out of Orange, The Auld Dubliner in Tustin is as promising as it gets. Offering a variety of live Celtic music performances, this Irish pub will make you feel like you’re actually in Dublin. Prepare for a selection of traditional Irish food and more than 60 Irish whiskies. On this day in 2016, even professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya couldn’t resist putting his gloves down for a night at The Auld Dubliner.
